PLANNING- Audience Task

Audience Task

The age range for our target audience  is the age range from 15/21 -22/23 young female adults tend to be attracted to our artist. We as a group have decided to chose the age range of 15 as we feel that the younger generation is more likely to listen and enjoy this type of music more. People at the age range of 22 still come across as being very mature and may also still find it interesting to listen to. People over this age range may not be interested in the story and could find it boring to listen to. Our wider audience would be aged 25+ mostly boys tend to to like the artist or song. We have chosen to aim our music video at girls as we feel that they are the main focus. When researching we found out that boys were not interested in the song as they didnt feel that it appealed to them as they used the term of it being 'girly' or 'gay' in most terms. However whilst gathering research and interviews of people in our age category we found out that our song could be aimed at a niece audience where the small minority of boys liked the song and thought the remake of the video would look well. Most boys would also be able to interact with the song well as it is about relationships and how beautiful certain objects relate to him. Boys could also be attracted to the music video though the brands that the artist wears such as trainers, vans, tracksuits, snapbacks etc, these are all clothing which the male audience find interesting and get inspiration from.
Looking at the original music video we see angel would mostly suit a female audience the reason being is that the song is based on wonderful things which presumably is girls. When gathering our research we found out most boys tend to find the song annoying where as girls on the other hand feel it is a good song and appeals to them more.

We also feel the lyrics of the song suit a female audience well as it continuously mentions something beautiful which relates to a woman and attracts womans attentions in many ways. Words such as 'beautiful' and 'Wonderful' are the types of words woman would also come across and not men as they would find it extremely odd

During the class lesson we were given a task to select our audience, the sheet we were given included the essential parts needed when we were explaining what they were interested below are some facts illustrated.
Our core audience task shown below;
  • 16-21 Females (Janet)
  • Working class students who go to college
  • Multicultural
  • Tend to shop at at Tesco, Sainsburys
  • In there spare time we see they like to go out with their friends, shopping and watch movies (socialise)
  • State what newspapers they read: None
  • State what magazines they read: Heat, ok etc
  • What transport do they use: Public transport
  • Describe what gadgets they use: the gadgets that Janet tend to use now are BB, Ipod, Iphone etc
  • Identify a brand that you think they would be attracted to and are more likely to shop at: Vans, Hollister, Nike, H&M, Newlook, Primmark
  • Identify their favourite drink: Fizzy drinks including coke , fanta etc
  • Describe where they like to go on holiday; France, spain
  • State why they like this genre/ band; it is upbeat, catchy and suits personality

We also were told to identify the psychographic profile of our audience taking on board the 4 main types which included:

Aspires: These are the type of audience who have a need for status and status symbols. have a love for cash and credit cards and who have no interest in jobs, who have the latest gadgets and who want to send out signals about their money and status.

Mainsteamers: Have a need for security, Plan for the future has a pension like brands who dont want to stand out from the crowd. They tend to want to go with the crows (makes up 40% of the population)

Reformers: Quality of life is more important than quality of possessions, such as the benefits of buying own brand products in supermarkets.

Succeeders: These are people who have already achieved status and no longer have the desire for status symbols; must be in control of their lives, they have lots of money but dont feel to show it off as much.

We feel our audience would be mainstreamers from the psychographic profile we chose this because it suits us as people where we feel our audience would also enjoy and fit in well. This decision was made by looking at the interests that our audience have and then generating the profile of mainstreamers.
