PRODUCTION- Skills development

PRODUCTION- Skills development
From AS-A2 the planning task for a music video is very different. In the first year of the course we were more involved in group discussions and group work where as now in the second year it is more independent. Over time when we were told what we were going to do in the second year i started early searching and watching music videos to help me in the second year whilst in the first year we looked at openings to thrillers which i found interesting looking at the shots and edits in which they used. In the beginning of the second year of planning we looked at theories which included andrew goodwin, Laura Mulveys and Caroll Vernallis theory. All 3 theories gave us clear insight of what music videos contain.
Most videos tend to contain a lot of random stories and also a lot of edits which catch our attention quickly. In the AS year we had picked the type of thriller which we wanted to produce and then from there researched into what interested us the most. When researching we had to make sure the key concepts of mise en scene camera work and editing matched the thriller we chose.
The target audience for my music video is teenage girls. We kept our core audience to the age 16-20 as we thought we will be able to have fun with the costumes / mise en scene and do things which myself and others my age enjoy. We also did a variety of research asking boys what they thought of our song but most didn't like it and referred to the song as being cheesy or boring therefore girls suited best.
When making the music video we had less time than we had when doing our thriller opening meaning we were able to gather the things we needed to prepare us for it outside such as our performer location etc. During the AS course the thrillers were mostly shot during college hours such as 3 hour media lessons, however this year my group have filmed during half term, weekends , during lesson and also after college (more time consuming)
